F.R.E.E. Foundation – Achieving Independence through Mobility
Do you need mobility equipment but don’t have insurance or funds to obtain these items?
The Foundation for Rehabilitation Equipment and Endowment (F.R.E.E. Foundation) of South Hampton Roads is a volunteer-led non-profit that provides equipment that helps people achieve and maintain mobility and independence.
F.R.E.E. collects, sanitizes, repairs and gifts donated mobility equipment to uninsured and underinsured adults in Virginia. When F.R.E.E. gifts equipment, falls and medical costs drop by over 80%.
A range of mobility equipment is available from F.R.E.E.:
- walkers and wheeled walkers
- canes and crutches
- bath and toilet aids
- manual and power wheelchairs
- hoyer lifts and other specialty equipment
This equipment is gifted by F.R.E.E. to individuals in need who meet eligibility requirements, at no cost. An application for F.R.E.E. can be found on their website at: http://www.free-foundation.org .
The SHR chapter serves the Hampton Roads area south of the James River including Norfolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Suffolk and surrounding areas. The chapter recently moved and now operates in a suite in the Bon Secours Health Center Building in Virginia Beach at 828 Healthy Way.
There are plenty of volunteering opportunities at the FREE Foundation including cleaning, repairing and transporting various mobility equipment, power and manual wheelchairs.
